A Day in the Life of James Farmer
Continuing with our series, we hear from James Farmer, our Senior Unified Communications Consultant to find out what a typical day looks like for him at Amtech Business Solutions.
Name: James Farmer
Job Title: Senior Unified Communications Consultant
Time with the company: 3 Years
What’s typically the first task of the day?
Coffee. I can’t start the day without a good cup of coffee, followed by a check of my emails and any P1 Tier 3 faults are worked on. If I’m on a deployment then it is usually straight to building and deploying.
How would you describe your role within the Amtech team?
Tier 3 support, design and deployment. I’m the person people go to when there is a major issue and unsure of what to do next.
What is your main priority on a typical day?
Making sure any projects I am working on are on track and going in with quality work.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of the job is learning. I’m always trying to learn something new. I also like being able to see how things should work in a logical fashion and knowing when they are not.
Have you had much experience in this industry before, if so, what?
I have been working in the industry since I was 20 (now 32). I started out on an IT training scheme at Nationwide Building Society in Swindon and got put on the voice team. I was dealing with a mix of technologies on a large scale and was dropped in the deep end, where I swim best. After 3 Years, I moved on to working on Lloyds on shore, after a little while I moved onto 2e2, ADP, Neptune, then finally landed in Amtech, I knew Dave from Neptune so knew it was a good fit.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Anything and everything. I could be working on support, a customer install, design or I could just be learning something new but always with a coffee in hand!
