Getting to know the team – Mark Carey (Service Desk Team Leader)
In this fortnight’s interview on Getting to know the team we spoke with our Service Desk Team Leader, Mark Carey. Mark has a longstanding technical background working with national broadcasting companies and major investment firms in the finance sector. He has worked all the way up from support roles to operations and infrastructure in various industries, but he’s always had a focus on networking, routing and servers. Mark has this same history of success on the cricket ground where he had a very early break in playing semi-professionally for the England U19s. Mark now plays for his local cricket team where he continues his love for sports and has several claims to fame from being featured in his county’s newspaper. We took this interview as an opportunity to delve into the lesser known facts about Mark. Read on to find out more.
What’s your favourite flavour of ice-cream?
Rum and Raisin.
If you could be an animal then what animal would you be?
A Bald Eagle – they are great hunters so I would never go hungry… and I’d be able to fly!!!
What’s the one thing you enjoy the most?
First and foremost, I love spending time with my family. I’m lucky enough to be part of a large one and anytime spent with them is always a joy and something to behold. My very close second love would have to be sport. I’ve always had a keen interest in most sports whether I’m playing or watching. I’ve found that sport can teach you valuable life lessons and will always keep you grounded as an individual.
If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?
Any Greek Island – Great Weather… Great Food… Friendly People… Great Scenery – need I say more!
What’s the nerdiest thing that you like to do in your spare time?
I’m a secret history book worm if I’m honest. I love researching historical events, such as past conflicts, important historical figures from the ages, and sometimes Ancient History, anything of that nature tends to get my attention.
What do you like about working at Amtech?
It might sound cliché but I love working for a forward thinking, ambitious, exciting company like Amtech, and being new to the industry myself, it gives me a great basis to further my education and broaden my technical abilities. You feel like you are part of the team working at Amtech, and as such, it makes you want to contribute and build something special here.
What’s been your biggest challenge whilst working on Amtech?
Building relationships with our partners. It’s always tough when you start a new role, but when you work on a daily basis with people who you know purely on a telephone relationship, it can become especially tough to build trust and learn how other people operate. Even though it’s been a challenge, it’s also been an enjoyable one because I’ve managed to learn some more skills along the way.
What are you looking forward to in the future with Amtech?
I’m looking forward to making Amtech as successful company it can be. I’m looking forward to the new exciting opportunities that will arise from that journey and also the friends that I will ultimately make along the way. And most importantly, I’m looking forward to sharing lots of successful memories with my colleagues.
